About SHYC

Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club moved into its first clubhouse in 1997.

The old clubhouse, a group of portable buildings, was purchased by the founders of the club. This together with the active encouragement of Sovereign Harbour Marina Ltd (SHM) who leased a plot of ground for a peppercorn rent enabled the members to erect and furnish the building on its former site east of the main harbour.

In 2001 we were required to move (buildings and all) close to our present site in the North Harbour where we improved and extended the club buildings.

With the support of SHM, negotiations for a permanent home were successfully concluded in December 2004 and, after obtaining detailed planning permission for a purpose built facility, we took up occupation of the new building to coincide with hosting the Sussex Regatta in April 2006.

At nearly three times the size of the previous club buildings, the new clubhouse adequately serves the needs of our expanding membership as well as providing a much-needed focus for social functions in the marina.

The contemporary design provides four floors comprising:

  • Lower ground floor - berth holders facilities
  • Ground floor - main entrance and toilets
  • 1st floor - club room and bar incorporating committee room
  • 2nd floor – main function suite and toilets

With air-conditioned bars, large picture windows and extensive sunny balconies on both the first and second floors, the clubhouse provides fantastic views over the North Harbour and is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the marina.

Sovereign Harbour Yacht Club is very proud of its smart new clubhouse, one of the best facilities on the south coast. This is a marvellous asset for all our members, achieved in such a short club history.
