Dinghies Training Centre

SHYC are pleased to announce our accreditation as a RYA training centre.

Following on from what was a fantastic pilot year for the Interclub Series, Buzz Active, under the lead instructor Katy Wilfort, have done their best to ensure 2019 is bigger and better in as many ways as possible.

So far they have already had another three sailing clubs sign up to the series for the season, Bexhill SC, Hastings & St Leonard SC & Newhaven & Seaford SC, ensuring that they will be able to get even more juniors out on the water.
So far for this season they have five events in the calendar; two at Buzz Active, two at Pevensey Bay SC, and a weekend event at Newhaven & Seaford SC. The idea with the event at Newhaven & Seaford is that it will give the juniors a chance to experience going and staying away for some racing, which they felt is a fantastic lead up to the RYA Regional Championships which Buzz Active hope to attend for the first time in September.
To get involved or find out more about dates and times of the different events please email Katy on Katy.wilfort@eastsussex.gov.uk or phone her on

If Sailing is not your thing, why not try our RYA power boat level 1 , Level 2 and safety boat courses.

Do you own or crew on a boat? Ever asked yourself the question what would I do if the skipper went over board? Could I take control or recover a person over board?

A power boat level 2 course would equip you with the skills to do just that. For enquiries email: Trainingcentre@shyc.co.uk

Ladies if you would prefer to learn with a female power boat instructor  then we can accommodate this. We have a displacement vessel which is perfect for getting to grips with the basic handling skills.
